Our Story

Kathrin Heckel, a European immigrant, comes from a long lineage of craftsmen. She has worked in the field for 15 years perfecting her craft. Throughout the years of working in the trade with modern plastering techniques she became captivated by the classic methods of the old world and keeping these historic traditions alive, naturally leading her to Venetian plaster. Intrigued by the materials, techniques, beauty, and diversity of the art, she ventured to the birthplace of this time-honoured craft in Venice Italy. She sought out guidance from renowned masters like Giovanni Polistena and Zeljko Babic, who come from a long line of skilled practitioners.
After completing training and attaining her certificate from Stucco Italiano in Vicenza, Italy, Kathrin came back to Victoria with a newfound enthusiasm and appreciation for her enduring craft. Bringing these traditional methods and refined styles from Italy exemplifies the authenticity she demands of herself. Kathrin skillfully transforms ordinary surfaces into stunning pieces of art, bringing sophistication and life to every space she works on. Today Kathrin’s passion for plastering continues to grow as she expands Fire and Limestone, immersing herself in the fascinating domain of Venetian plaster. With each project, she incorporates genuine Venetian craftsmanship and history into Victoria’s modern tapestry.
